Delhi Police have also heightened security in Lutyens' Delhi, deploying additional forces and enforcing Section 163 of the BNSS, which prohibits unlawful gatherings. This is part of arrangements to manage the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In parallel, the Information Technology Ministry has issued an advisory to social media platforms. They are urged to expedite the removal of content identified by government ministries and departments as having potential implications for public order.
The advisory specifically requests platforms to prioritize reports from authorized government agencies regarding content that could cause public disorder or incite cognizable offenses. This directive aims to limit the reach of posts deemed likely to disrupt public order.
This internet shutdown follows a similar measure imposed during the Gen-Z protests in July. The IT Ministry's advisory also signals an increased focus on censoring content on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, which have been complying with takedown notices under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
