Aishe Ghosh, national joint secretary of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and former JNUSU president, was among those detained by Delhi Police on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The detentions occurred in New Delhi as student organizations and the CJP planned to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The CJP had called for a demonstration, alleging voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and irregularities concerning Form 6, used for voter registration. They demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
SFI National President Adarsh M. Saji stated that over 400 members of the organization were detained. The protesters were attempting to march towards Jantar Mantar, where the Delhi Police had denied permission for the protest, citing security and procedural reasons.
Leaders from the CJP, including Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka, also claimed to have been detained by Delhi Police upon their flight's landing in the capital. The previous night, police reportedly visited HKS Surjeet Bhawan, the location of the SFI Central Executive Committee office, searching for individuals planning to participate in the demonstration.
Following the detentions, AA Rahim, Rajya Sabha MP and DYFI president, announced a new protest, dubbed 'Jantar Mantar 2.0,' at Nangloi Stadium. This protest includes demands for action and an apology from Inspector Pawan Tomar for alleged misconduct with women students, and the return of phones and bags confiscated by the police.
