Dismissed police officer Sachin Waze has been granted bail by a special court in Mumbai in connection with the Antilia bomb scare case. The court stated that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) failed to demonstrate that the Ambani family was terrorized by the incident.
The court observed that Waze had already undergone a minimum of five years in custody, and the evidence presented was not sufficient to deny his bail plea. It was also noted that Waze's actions, prima facie, did not meet the definition of a terrorist act under Section 15 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
"There is absolutely nothing on record even to infer by any stretch of imagination that the Ambanis or any one of them were ever terrorised in any manner," the court stated, adding that the "day-to-day business of the Ambanis does not appear to have been disturbed even for a minute."
The court further cited the considerable distance between the building where the SUV was parked and Antilia, suggesting the threat did not carry enough weight to create terror. Waze has been in custody since 2021, facing charges including murder and criminal conspiracy, alongside provisions of the UAPA and Arms Act.
